Assistant Caretaker

South London

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Assist the Caretaker or Site Manager on ensuring the security, safety, warmth and cleanliness of the school premises, including maintenance of the site.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Securing the site and assisting in site emergency and evacuation procedures.

• Routine locking and unlocking of school premises and grounds, setting alarms, reporting defects, preventing trespass and unauthorised parking. (No risk to staff, in line with agreed code of practice).

• Carrying out appropriate fire, safety and emergency procedures in the event of fire, flood and break-in.

• Understanding and operating security equipment.

2. Reporting defects and carrying out cleaning, minor repairs and maintenance around the workplace, both internal and external.

• Ensuring that premises, furniture, play areas, drains, boiler house, etc. are clean, tidy and safe.

• Cleaning up dirty areas so as to maintain health and safety of premises.

3. Operating the heating plant to provide heating and hot water as required and checking ancillary electrical equipment and controls in the absence of the Caretaker/Site Manager.

4. Understanding and making decisions on application of frost/freezing precautions when appropriate.

5. Reading energy meters and monitoring heating and ventilation systems.

6. Setting up rooms for events and supporting the coordination of events in school.

7. Dealing with enquiries from staff and contractors, and communicating with external contractors.

8. Organising and taking delivery of stock.

9. Being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection.

10. Reporting all concerns to appropriate person.

11. To undertake any other task as required by management within the purpose of the job.

His premise is that CV to job spec is simple but candidate to culture is the hard bit.

Dan’s another seasoned recruiter of some 25 years. Although he has the MD responsibility he is still a hands on recruiter in Finance, PM and technical disciplines. Dan puts extreme value on client retention and has a great eye for detail which is perfect for the fit of his MD hat.
